Malaysia My Second Home — a long-stay visa programme that lets qualifying foreigners live in Malaysia on a renewable multi-year pass. Here's what it is, and how the three tiers compare.
Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) is a government-run visa programme that allows foreign nationals and their dependents to reside in Malaysia on a long-term, renewable pass — without needing a local employer or business.
Approved applicants place a fixed deposit with a Malaysian bank and typically also purchase property above a set minimum value. In return, they receive a multi-year visa that can be renewed, and can bring a spouse and dependents under the same application.
The programme was restructured in 2024 into three tiers — Silver, Gold and Platinum — each with its own financial requirements and visa duration. The higher the tier, the larger the deposit and property purchase, and the longer the visa validity.
MM2H is separate from property ownership itself — it doesn't require buying real estate to qualify on its own, but combining the two is common among Keith's clients who want both a home and a long-stay pass in Kuala Lumpur.
Placed with an approved Malaysian bank; partly withdrawable after the first year.
A minimum-value real estate purchase in Malaysia, in addition to the deposit.
A renewable long-stay pass — 5, 15 or 20 years depending on tier.
Spouse and eligible dependents can typically be included under one application.
MM2H is structured into three tiers. Each column below shows the financial requirements, visa duration and conditions side by side.
Figures above reflect the restructured MM2H programme requirements as a general guide. Requirements are set by the Malaysian government and may be updated — Keith can confirm the latest figures and help assess which tier fits your situation.
